This is a coating applied to the hull to give protection from frictional atmospheric heating. It does not affect the defensive properties of the hull. It is most useful for those who regularly use their Fuel Scoops to collect fuel from suns, as it significantly increases the amount of time a ship can survive close to the sun, and may be essential for slower ships.
It is also a prerequisite for acquiring planetary landing capabilities (if Planetfall OXP is installed).
It costs 1,500 ₢. and is available at Tech Level 5 or higher.
