Article Namespace vs User Namespace
Well, your choice, but that is no reason to have your userpage in the article namespace. Please move this page to user:RyanHoots and delete the then-here-autocreated redirect. It's up to you to then fix any broken links.
Your "dislike for the user namespace" to me is no valid reason for sneaking your userpage into the article namespace. If I call category:Oolite then that is because I want to find something about Oolite, not about this or that user. Even Aegidian is found at user:Aegidian. well, ... --Snork 18:44, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have been thinking about this recently. My main reason for using the article namespace is because my user page is actually my in-game character's page, so I thought it unfitting to have my character's page in the user namespace. So really, this page could be split, one page in the user namespace, and one normal page for the character. Does this sound good? (Sorry about the slow reply, I haven't checked this page for a while) --Ryan Hoots 18:11, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
lol, I think this was "fast reply", I do not expect anyone to drop in daily or something. I am just here now a lot because my account is new and want to learn more about wiki usage/ internals
Hm, maybe a solution for you could be dividing your userpage with subpages - one for yourself, one for your character ?
So user : Ryan Hoots would be whatever you want to display first and foremost, but contain a link (at the top or whereever) to "the other side of Ryan Hoots" ?
I just tried to do this (very rough draft style) on my userpage, so you can take a look at the idea. :) Snork 18:46, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Changes have been applied. User:RyanHoots is now the page for my user, and User:RyanHoots/Commander Ryan Hoots is the page for my character. At the top of my main user page, it says, "This page is about the human being who plays Oolite. For the Deadly rated harmless furry feline, see this page."
- Thanks for the ideas, I think it makes a lot of sense. Wikis can be such complicated places. --Ryan Hoots 19:32, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Looks nice and elegant a solution to me. :) about the wiki stuff being complicated - absolutely, it made me abstain from becoming really involved in wikipedia for long time. :(
Ok, off I go, there are many more splinters to be scooped before I can afford some serious ship again.
- May your missiles never fall to ECMs, fellow commander. :) --Ryan Hoots 19:42, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
