Overview
The Icarus is another Seldar Shipyards design, based on blueprints from the lost Solice system.
The Icarus Light Trader was originally designed as a defence craft with a large inventory of heavy weapons stored in an internal bay. Seldar have retained the vessel's relatively small size but converted the weapons bays into cargo space.
Much of the vessel's capacity comes from the fact that the engines are mounted on outrigger pods at the side of the main superstructure. The original design featured twin cannons on the fore edges of these outriggers, but this feature has been removed in Seldar's version.
The Legend of Solice
The Solice system was once home to an advanced humanoid race. They never explored beyond thier own system due to a strong rivalry betwen the two sentient races that inhabited that system. They developed space travel rapidly once their technological age arrived, but thier social development was not as advanced. Weapons research was a huge industry in the system and it was not long before weapons capable of razing a planet were constructed.
The last records from the system describe a planetary satellite being built by one of the belligerent societies of this system, and a lone pilot was set against them, flying a vessel named the Icarus. It is unknown whether this pilot was succeddful in his mission, but it is rumoured that not long after this information was received, all contact with the Solice system was lost.
