The universe

The universe is made up of sectors, each sector is essentially a cube of space containing several star systems. If you are used to various Elite maps which show depth as a vertical line extending to the object, then you should have no trouble reading the Ulite system map.

The sectors are arranged as a two dimensional array. So while the universe does have some depth to it, it's essentially two dimensional. Sectors are usually referenced by their coordinates in the universe surrounded by square brackets, eg. sector [4, -7].

Each star system contains a sun. It may also contain one or more planets (as well as the occasional asteroid belt).

Space stations may be located on or in orbit around planets.

How to play

Players start out with a very basic ship and some credits. There is no risk of being attacked until you begin accepting missions (see The Missions section of the Documentation page).

Firstly, you can earn credits and some flight related skills just by trading between systems. Once you have enough credits, check for more advanced ships available within your skill range and also buy better equipment. By this point it should safe to begin seeking out missions. Missions introduce you to combat which allows you to develop the skills you'll need to pilot larger ships.
