Origins
When the Thargoids stepped up their raids against the regions of space controlled by the Galactic Cooperative of Worlds, the GalCop Security Council began tendering bids to produce a military vessel to counter the increasingly more advanced and more powerful Thargoid vessels being encountered in the spacelanes and close to planets. Many prestigious companies tendered designs and prototypes for testing including the Ramon Security Limited (RaSeL), a division of the Marett Space Corp.. After investing hundreds of millions of credits into their bid, Ramon Security lost out to Aegidian Industries, the company that produced the Behemoth. GalCop gave its reasons as being that the Behemoth required fewer crew, had launch capabilities and was noticably cheaper to buy.
Facing imminent financial ruin and the threat of re-amalgamation back into Marett, RaSeL did the only thing possible, they defied GalCop's directive to dismantle their production lines and began selling their ships to any military powers that could afford their prices. Thus the Daemon Class Cruiser went into circulation as a military capital ship. Many governments purchased the impressive ship, the most notable being the Eszausveian Dictatorship, who set about buying large numbers of the vessel to swiftly and effectively cow the oft-times fractious civilian populace.
Notable Features
At first glance, the sheer size of the Daemon is obvious. In almost every way, it dwarfs the Behemoth: longer, higher and wider and bristling with offensive firepower and protected by layers of Zieman energy deflection shields. Amongst its primary arsenal it boasts military-yield LF90 laser systems, auto-tracking laser turrets and a large missile pylon exclusively equipped with Faulcon de Lacy HMX5 ECM-Hardened missiles. Another exceptional weapon system, developed specially for the Daemon, is an array of upgraded high power plasma cannon which function both as point defence and, with slightly less effect, as direct fire weapons. These systems alone make the Daemon Class Cruiser a fearsome prospect for even the most deranged Commander, and might even give a moment of pause to the fear gland-less Thargoids.
