Overview
After licensing the Asp Mark II from the Galactic Navy, Zorgon Petterson Group attempted to secure further lucrative naval contracts with the Fer d'Épeé (also know as the Ferdepai). Abandoning the luxurious trimmings of their earlier Fer de Lance model, they took many ideas from the Asp, such as the twin pilot configuration, but added new elements, including the capacity for fuel scoops for use on long inter-solar missions. To make space for the new equipment some little-used offensive weaponry was omitted.
About 1200 prototypes were produced for a large scale military field trial. Many of the components were taken directly from the Asp for compatibility with existing naval systems, such as the Voltaire Whiplash HZ Pulsedrive engine and the Hassoni-Kruger Burst Laser. Ultimately, ZPG lost out in field trials to the superior, but more costly, Constrictor design produced in Reesdice. One of the Fer d'Épeé prototypes is currently housed in the ZPG museum. The whereabouts of the remaining prototypes is unknown.
While few have flown it, those that have claim that the Fer d'Épeé has superior in-flight handling characteristics to either the Asp or the Fer de Lance.
