Revision as of 23:59, 18 June 2014
When this addon will be finished then players can build up an escort fleet within a main ship. Currently a few Carrier models are ready with various ships on board. You can do a test flight but the escorts are decorations only until the scripts will be finished.
The hull of Carriers is barely fit into a standard 64m x 192m x 250m dock, together with the carried ships on decks.
Main decks
Side decks can hold a pair of large ships up to Anaconda or as many smaller ships as can fit into the 2x140m long decks, for example 4 Asp, 6 Fer-De-Lance or 8 Adder.
Top decks on the front and over the middle engine can hold ships with less than 35m height, 130m width and 95m length: Cobra Mark III or smaller ships.
The top front position acts as a command bridge: Commanders in this ship will be able to steer the Carrier and launch immediately without undocking. In this case the Carrier is a large escort bay under the Commander's ship.
Extended decks
Must buy additional equipments to utilize small surfaces for holding light escort ships.
Center deck on the neck: for an Adders (30x52x15m), this is a very narrow place.
Aft side decks over side engines: hold small escorts (65x58x15m): Adder, Gecko or Sidewinder. If you are so skillful then you will figure out why the length of this deck is exactly 58m.
Cargo
If you have 5 Cobra Mark I on board then your total cargo capacity is 100t, but you will not see this in one piece.
You will be able to switch between your ships when you are in a dock but you will see one cargo bay at a time.
If your goal is a really big trader ship then gather enough money to buy two Anacondas into your carrier.

[hide]Instructions
In Oolite v1.79 or later do not unzip the .oxz file, just move into the AddOns folder of your Oolite installation. In Oolite v1.77 make a Carriers.oxp subfolder in your AddOns folder and unzip the .oxz file into the newly created subfolder.
There are savegames in the package, copy into your oolite-saves directory if you want a test flight.
