The Oolite Saga is a series of four fan-fiction stories based in the Oolite Universe written by Drew Wagar.

The first book, Status Quo, tells of the invention of the Q-Bomb in the year 3138. Jim Feynman, a brilliant scientist, aided by the feisty and embittered pilot Rebecca Tyley, foil a plot to destroy the Imperial Capital Achenar and defeat a mysterious assassin.

In the second book, Mutabilis, after a series of mysterious murders of high-profile GalCop personnel, Jim and Rebecca are separately recruited to pursue the assassin from the previous story. They become entangled in a dangerous quest for the legendary planet Raxxla. Mutabilis is set two years on from Status Quo, and has a darker more malevolent tone. It also contains a cameo by Captain Hesperus.

In the third book, Incursio, Jim and Rebecca reprise their roles in the midst of a war between humankind and the Thargoids in the year 3151, alongside characters from the Oolite forum: Daddyhoggy, Coyote, Derik(Cmdr Wyvern), Udian(Clym Angus), Blaze o' Glory(Disembodied), Cheyd and Myy'q(Maik). Rebecca, Coyote, Derik and Udian are blackmailed by the GalNavy and forced to smuggle a deadly bio-weapon across Chart One with the aim of testing it on the Thargoids. Jim and Daddyhoggy manage to partially discover the reason for the Thargoid invasion. As the book closes Rebecca is kidnapped by the Thargoids.

The fourth book, Finis, original completed the saga. Finis tells of the increasing xenophobia of Galcop, the real reason behind the Thargoid's continual attacks on humanity and the ultimate fate of Jim, Rebecca and the other characters from Incursio. Raxxla is once again involved...

There was also a fifth and final book called 'Altera', which blends the story of Oolite into that of Frontier's Elite: Dangerous in a vain, but worthy attempt to rationalise the disparate and fractured canon of Elite, FE2, FFE, Oolite and Elite: Dangerous...
Status Quo is an Oolite novella by Drew Wagar. It is the first part of the Oolite Saga, followed by Mutabilis.

Introduction
Status Quo was written to give newcomers to Oolite a feel for how Oolite differs from Elite in a the form of a story, setting the scene for all the adventures to come, rather like the original Robert Holdstock's novel The Dark Wheel set the tone for Elite itself.

It's set four years before the time in which players of Oolite find themselves.

"A brilliant scientist uncovers a terrifying plot to begin a galactic war. Aided by a talented, but reluctant and embittered combateer, he must stop the deployment of a super weapon he invented. A weapon so powerful it threatens to destroy entire worlds."

There is also a Facebook fan page.

Second edition
Status Quo was revised in October 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Elite. The second edition features some extra scenes, improved dialogue and updated references to bring it in-line with the progress made within Oolite during the three years since Status Quo was first released in 2006.

Downloads
You can download the story from this website.

Notes
Status Quo is set in the year 3138, four years before the official time frame of the Oolite game, which has been set as 3142.

In the game, the Q-Bomb does not behave as it does in the novel. However, it is possible to install the Status Quo Q-bomb OXP to make the Q-Bomb behave as it does in the novel.

The author also recommends the following OXPs be installed in order to make the game play as close to the novel as possible: BoyRacer, Tori, Famous Planets, Tianve Pulsar, System Redux, Behemoth, Imperial Courier, SuperCobra and Snoopers (which adds the Tionisla Chronicle news feed to the game.)

Overview

The fourth book, Finis, complete's the Saga. Finis tells of the increasing xenophobia of Galcop, the real reason behind the Thargoid's continual attacks on humanity and the ultimate fate of Jim, Rebecca and the other characters from Incursio. Raxxla is once again involved...
Status Quo (2006) - The first story in the Oolite Saga. “A brilliant scientist uncovers a terrifying plot to begin a galactic war. Aided by a talented, but reluctant and embittered combateer, he must stop the deployment of a super weapon he invented. A weapon so powerful it threatens to destroy entire worlds.”

Elite came with a Novella called 'The Dark Wheel', which set the scene for the game. 'Status Quo' aims to do the same thing for 'Oolite', introducing Commander Jamesons to the 'Ooniverse'...
Mutabilis (2008) - The second story in the Oolite Saga. “When a series of linked murders forces GalCop to outlaw the shadow organisation known as ‘The Dark Wheel’, a mysterious top secret document must be found in order to stave off a galactic conflict. The document contains a devastating secret; the key to domination, power and control. A secret as old as space itself, the location of the legendary planet ‘Raxxla’”.

Mutabilis' is the sequel to 'Status Quo' and also introduces readers to the adventures of Captain Hesperus. Further accounts of this roguish character can be found in the Calliope story below...

Incursio (2011) - The third story in the Oolite Saga. “When a deadly alien attack is launched across the galaxy, humankind finds itself under-prepared and overwhelmed. As star systems begin to fall, privateers take up the battle alongside the military forces and a desperate plan is hatched to stop the invaders once and for all, before humanity is eradicated.”

Finis (2011) - The fourth and final part of the Oolite Saga. "With the alien menace poised to overthrow the galaxy a lone group of combateers is all that that stands between them and total annihilation. When one of their number is kidnapped by the aliens and their plans thwarted, the group must decide whether to mount a rescue and risk losing the war, or sacrifice her for the greater good of humankind…"
Drew has also written a number of short stories for the Oolite Universe…

Schism (2007) - ”Lumbering through the deeps of space are the Generation Ships; huge self contained transports driving between the stars at sublight speeds in the midst of thousand year journeys to populate new planets. After 30 generations, a staggering and devastating truth is revealed to the occupants of one such ship…”

Nine (2009) - “The story of an attempt to reach the ‘ninth’ chart. As players familiar with Elite and Oolite will doubtless know there are only eight charts reachable by Galactic Hyperspace. Does the ninth chart exist? Can it be reached? If so, what’s there? This is a slightly chilling tale of the ‘Ooniverse’…”

Ascension (2009) - ”A tale of what might happen when an example of sophisticated technology is suddenly thrust upon a backward culture steeped in religion.”

Replay (2009) - “Difficult to describe even in summary without giving away the plot. It’s only three and a half pages long, so won’t take you long! Enjoy!”

Overview
Tianve is a rather far flung planet in the extreme North East sector of Chart 1. Its primary industry is tourism. There is a thriving blackmarket trade in illegal luxury food blender parts.

Tianve Pulsar
Tianve is most noted for its famous pulsar, the top tourist attraction in the North East quadrant. It is recommended you book in advance to visit the pulsar as it can get extremely busy.

The Pulsar is the one only in drive range and much of Tianve's economy is based around this. The famous Murgh 'SpaceFlare' Tourist Liners are available for luxury hire or you may make your own way there in Rental Vehicles available from the main Coriolis station.

Near the Pulsar itself is a heavily shielded, but unarmed, Navy Station acquired by the Tianveian Tourist Board.

The advanced shield-generators of the Navy Station were retained, in order to provide protection from the dangerous levels of radiation emitted by the pulsar. The fighter bays were completely removed and converted into luxurious guest quarters, bars and shopping malls for the well-heeled tourists who enjoy sight-seeing tours of the pulsar.

The Pulsar is some way from the Tianve System. It is suggested that sight see-ers bring adequate supplies as the trip can be quite long. Visitors are recommended to book early as the Tianve system can get quite busy at times. Pilots are warned that liners have priority in all spacelanes.

Prohibited Imports
Zero-gee Cricket and all related sporting equipment is banned on Tianve in order to preserve equanimity for the native feline population. Food blenders are likewise definitely not de-regueur.

Introduction
Elite:Reclamation is an officially licensed novel written by Drew Wagar, set in the Elite:Dangerous universe and published in May 2014 prior to the Elite : Dangerous game by Frontier Developments. There is also a website dedicated to the book.

The novel features an ensemble cast of memorable characters, a dark and dystopian future and a plot which twists from political intrique, via epic space battles, to a tense page-turning finale.

Whilst Elite:Reclamation is a wholly original work, Drew has already produced a fan-fic series based in the Elite-like universe of the fan game Oolite. These novels, known as the Oolite Saga, are still available on-line and can be downloaded for free, with the first being published back in 2006.

Drew's Kickstarter for the novel caused a notable stir in the online community by being one of the first Kickstarters to successfully fund a pledge on another Kickstarter. This unorthodox approach generated a number of press articles.

The Elite:Reclamation project raised £7,043 from its initial Kickstarter, and is published by Fantastic Books.

The trailer video for the book is available on youtube.
Feedback from Readers
I am a huge fan of the Culture novels by Iain M. Banks and the work of Michael Cobley, so this for me had an awful lot to live up to if I am honest. I needn’t have worried because this is an absolute belter of a space opera.

A beautifully crafted story with real characters. I couldn’t help but get drawn into their world. I saw the beauty of the Prism system and cried ‘foul’ over the political shenanigans that threatened it. And what an amazing and original heroine!

The characters are engaging and interesting … their motivations may not always be immediately clear, but they’re always believable, specially with hindsight.

If cliffhangers were coat hangers then this tale would need a walk-in wardrobe to hold them all!
This cast is then involved in a complicated and yet beautifully choreographed dance through the stars.
Drew seems to have mastered the ability to carry the reader through and into the story, so that you feel part of it. He is definitely one of today’s best writers in this genre.

All I can say is WOW! The story is nicely paced with well fleshed out characters and great descriptions. You can easily believe that this was written by a better known author by the quality of the writing.

The story starts of at a pace and gets faster and faster until your reading at 100mph wanting to know the result of the next interaction between the characters.
Introduction
Elite:Reclamation is an officially licensed novel being written by Drew Wagar, set in the Elite:Dangerous universe and published in May 2014 prior to the Elite : Dangerous game by Frontier Developments. There is also a website dedicated to the book.

The novel features an ensemble cast of memorable characters, a dark and dystopian future and a plot which twists from political intrique, via epic space battles, to a tense page-turning finale.

Whilst Elite:Reclamation will be a wholly original work, Drew has already produced a fan-fic series based in the Elite-like universe of the fan game Oolite.

The Elite:Reclamation project has currently raised £7,043 from its initial Kickstarter, and is published by Fantastic Books.

Notes
The blurb for the book reads as follows:

Lady Kahina Loren, born into the Prism system’s powerful ruling family, is desperate to throw off the shackles of her privileged lifestyle and discover herself, but ambition crumbles when she faces death at the hands of the one person she thought she could trust.

With the advanced technology of the 3rd millennium, death is not always as final as it seems, but when that technology malfunctions, is death the better option…
Whilst Elite:Reclamation will be a wholly original work, Drew has already produced a fan-fic series based in the Elite-like universe of the fan game Oolite. Drew's Kickstarter for the novel caused a notable stir in the online community by being one of the first Kickstarters to successfully fund a pledge on another Kickstarter. This unorthodox approach generated a number of press articles.
Elite Bio
Drew Wagar first played Elite a month after it was first released on the BBC Model B. He was 13. A friend (with rich parents) had given it to their son as a Christmas present. His most vivid recall is the wireframe presentation but with addition of a new technique - 'hidden line removal', making the objects appear solid. A remarkable achievement he'd not seen before. He played it mostly on a ZX Spectrum. He originally had a 16k model and bought the extra 32k mostly in order to play Elite. He genuinely became 'Elite' after many months of playing, despite lensloks and the occasional "R: Tape Loading Error."

Somewhere in the open ended game play, the vast nature of the universe portrayed, the encouragement for you to put your own imagination into the game and the novelisation that set the scene.... was the magic that is Elite. Drew considers that the game, combined with some of the TV and books of the time (Ulysses 31, Hitch Hikers Guide, Blakes 7 etc), was a perfect moment in time.

He was never too enamoured with computers in the 16 bit age, and pretty much ignored the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga. His next machine was a 386 SX PC. He enjoyed FE2, as an astronomy buff, the realistic physics was actually more fun to him. Drew considers FFE to be a backwards step in many ways. But neither of them were 'Elite'. Elite didn't come back into his conscious thought until he came across "The New Kind" a few years ago. He was very disappointed that the Palm version of Elite was never released. Then on a search for an 'Elite' that would run on Linux he discovered Oolite early in 2006.

Non Elite interests
* Amateur Astronomer
* Plays the piano tolerably well
* Plays the guitar and clarinet tolerably less well, in that order
* Enjoys Cycling and Walking the dog.
* Writing passable fiction
* Mucking about with Linux, pretending he knows something about computers.

Fiction Contributions to Oolite
Inspired by the Oolite game itself, Drew has written a 'Novella' for Oolite, called Status Quo. Status Quo was an attempt to provide a link between the back stories of Elite, Oolite and the later events of FE2/FFE, giving a newcomer to Oolite some information on how things differ from Elite in a narrative context, reminiscent of the original Elite novella, 'The Dark Wheel' by Robert Holdstock.

Drew has now written three sequels to Status Quo.

Drew has also written a short story about the Generation Ships called Schism, a very short story about an attempt to travel to the 'ninth chart', called, rather unsurprisingly - Nine and a further very short story called Ascension and another called Replay.

Game Contributions to Oolite
Drew has also written a small OXP for Oolite which features the Tianve Star System in the North East area of Galactic Chart One, where some of the action in Status Quo takes place. This creates the features mentioned in the story and the player can thus go sight seeing. The Tianve OXP can be downloaded from here.

Drew also contributed the Tionisla Chronicle articles for Snoopers.

Miscellaneous
Drew is married with two young sons, a dog and a feline lifeform from the planet Tianve.

It's reported that he spends most of his time on a rather backward planet called 'Earth', that he does not live in Essex, that he does not require any double glazing or a conservatory and disposes of unsolicited callers with a small plasma accelerator.

Drew's website/blog can be found here.

[[Image:Drew_Wagar.jpg‎|right|thumb|150px|Drew Wagar, Courtesy of www.drewwagar.com]

* Amateur Astronomer
* Plays the piano tolerably well
* Plays the guitar and clarinet tolerably less well, in that order
* Enjoys Cycling and Walking the dog.
* Writing passable fiction

Overview

“A worthy successor of ‘Status Quo’ and ‘Mutabilis’ ”

“Drew, like his stories, gets better with every iteration. Incursio is a real story where the reader will feel the emotional highs and lows of the characters. The fact that this just happens to be an Oolite inspired work of fiction is simply a bonus.”

“Balls to the wall, punch the injectors and hang on. It’s going to be a wild ride!”
Notes
Whereas Status Quo and Mutabilis are set in the years 3138 and 3140 respectively, Incursio will cover the years 3149-3151, according to Selezen’s excellent Elite Timeline. For reference Elite is assumed to have been set in the year 3125, and Oolite in the year 3142.

It's set four years before the time in which players of Oolite find themselves. (See notes below).

Introduction
Elite:Reclamation is an upcoming officially licensed novel being written by Drew Wagar, set in the Elite:Dangerous universe and due for publication in March 2014 alongside the Elite : Dangerous game by Frontier Developments. There is also a website dedicated to the book.

The novel will feature an ensemble cast of memorable characters, a dark and dystopian future and a plot which will twist from political intrique, via epic space battles, to a tense page-turning finale.

Whilst Elite:Reclamation will be a wholly original work, Drew has already produced a fan-fic series based in the Elite-like universe of the fan game Oolite.

The Elite:Reclamation project has currently raised £7,043 from its initial Kickstarter, and is continuing to pursue funding for £8,500 in order to facilitate a paperback print run via paypal.

The 'teaser' video for the book is available on youtube.
Elite:Reclamation will be available on Amazon and Smashwords initially.

It is reported that Elite:Reclamation will be set in the year 3299, and based around in a star system known as the 'Prism'.

* Amateur Astronomer
* Plays the piano tolerably well
* Plays the guitar and clarinet tolerably less well, in that order
* Enjoys Cycling and Walking the dog.
* Writing passable fiction

The Elite:Reclamation project has currently raised £7,043 from its initial Kickstarter, and is continuing to pursue funding for £8,500 in order to facilitate a paperback print run via paypal.

The 'teaser' video for the book is available on youtube.
